t's an exciting time in Ferguson Citywalk, with several major developments on the horizon. After a decade of moderate growth, the district has recently enjoyed an increasing level of public and private investment. Ferguson Citywalk is the only commercial district bordering the new NorthPark redevelopment, a $380 million business park projected to generate 5.5 million square feet of commercial space. Scheduled to break ground in 2006, the project will bring 12,000 new workers to the area, all of whom can easily access Citywalk via Suburban Avenue.

Two minutes south of NorthPark and 1.5 miles from Citywalk, UMSL is developing a research park expected to create thousands of jobs. Anchored by the world headquarters of Fortune 500 company Express Scripts, which opened in the Spring of 2007.  The site will also include a hotel, conference center, and technology incubator.

Financial Incentives
Designated as a TIF (tax increment financing) zone in 2002, Citywalk can offer financial incentives for qualified improvement projects. Redevelopment agreements, which are negotiated on an individual basis between the city and the developer or business, must be approved by the Ferguson City Council, and terms may vary from one agreement to the next. Preference is given to the following types of businesses:

  • Restaurants
  • Arts & entertainment
  • Niche retailers
Business Support
As a traditional downtown business district, Ferguson Citywalk is home to dozens of entrepreneurs, and its success is directly linked to the health, creativity, and ingenuity of small businesses. Aiming to be a haven for "mom and pop" establishments, as well as a destination for arts, dining and entertainment, the district actively supports its members by hosting business enrichment workshops and providing other support services.
Former City manager A.J. Krieger (L) and councilwoman Peggy Faul (R) attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for one of Citywalk's newest restaurants, El Palenque.
